| Temper, Red as Her Lips
Dustin LaValley
In her attempts to decode his vocalizations she turns a wrong corner and heads down a one-way street. Distracted, infuriated, regard is tossed out the window to settle amongst disbanded cigarette butts—mutual friends in theory though blatantly unsuspecting in appearance. Screaming women stuck in golden era cardigans and skirts lift children into their arms and sprint for the sidewalk, escaping the danger within the street by mere moments. She stomps on the gas, gunning for an unseen victim, a hit-and-run on a purely anthropomorphic basis: a premeditated murder due to faulty foundations via instructions in a foreign language, misunderstood and guided by illustrations. Lost in her fervor the oncoming car is unseen and collides with a mighty force, crunching metal and shattering glass. She stumbles from the crash confused but unharmed, undaunted by the wail of the horn under the head of departed innocence.
