| Danny Evarts
NOTE: The following is a small selection of illustrations that appear in D. Harlan Wilson's Peckinpah: An Ultraviolent Romance. They are relief prints carved on a mixture of wood and linoleum blocks. Each piece was inspired by some snippet of text or mood in the novel. Each was rough-sketched on paper and transferred in reverse, or drawn right on the block itself, then hand carved, adding detail, style, and depth to the image. After carving, ink was rolled onto the block, and then the image was handprinted onto paper. Approximately 40 rough images were done for the project. 28 were used.

Danny Evarts wisely leaves writing to those with more of a knack for it, and instead supports the form through illustration, design and editing. Having worked in the music, comics and print fields, he now spends his time as Art Director for Shroud Publishing and working on side projects that catch his fancy. Though his primary forms are pen and ink or printmaking, the winters in his home of Maine tend to be rather long and dark, so he also whiles away the hours binding books, crafting odd fiber constructions, playing with Legos, and generally making a huge mess. Danny is very clumsy as well, so it's likely that his own blood has touched everything he does. Literally. |
